Excellent addition to any classroom! Woven throughout the book is the concept of symmetry and how it applies to food, names, etc. Great explanation and illustrations of symmetry. Recommended.
Primary teachers looking for supplemental material to use with math will appreciate this easy reader series. The series includes stories with clever insertions of math into daily life. Classroom teachers and librarians will want this enrichment series in their libraries.
Otto and the New Girl is a cute story of friendship and dealing with feelings, drawing a lovely analogy between symmetry and asymmetry and feelings. This book could be used as either a launch or summary for an exploration of symmetry. Or it could be read in segments, as the mathematical concept is developed, to support students’ connections to real-world applications, coupled with discussions of feelings, friendship, and how to choose our reactions to the same.
Highly recommended.
